Epoxy Resin Art for Beginners:

Hey there! This article is going to teach you about using epoxy resin for your art projects using silicone Molds

1.What is epoxy resin?

Epoxy resin is a type of resin that many artists use when creating various art and crafts projects.

When mixed with a harder using a 1:1 ratio it causes a chemical reaction that turns the liquid epoxy into solid.

Epoxy resin can be used to create small and meaningful items such as keychains, bookmarks, pens, dog tags, coasters and many more.

Allows your creativity to go wild while using other creative supplies such as mica powders, resin tints or paint.

2.How to Mix your epoxy resin?

The first thing we will do is mix the resin and harder in equal ratio 1:1 into our measuring cup and mix them together for approximately 4 minutes.

Before you get started there are some supplies you are going to need. These supplies will help you protect you from the chemical reaction while mixing.

  • Epoxy Resin
  • Gloves
  • Respiratory mask
  • Stirring Utensils
  • Mixing Cups
  • A level surface
  • Resin Molds
  • Glitter, Mica Powder, Paint ect (any material that you wish to purchase to make your design pop)

Now that you have a list of items you need to carefully plan what u want to create using the molds that you purchased.

How Does Resin Cure?

Now that you’ve got the mixing part figured out and you’ve poured into your molds, you’re just 24 hours away from taking it out of the mold – this is called the curing stage.

You should also cover your artwork after u have finished to ensure to avoid dusk. Below are some cure times for some of the art projects we will mention in this article.

Project

Cure Time

Letter Keychains

 24 – 72 hours (about 3 days)

 Bookmarks

12-24 hours

Dog Tags

24-48 hours (about 2 days)

Coaster

72 hours

Each curing time will vary depending on the brand of resin you’re using and the temperature. To ensure the best results the curing guide above can be used but not limited to.

To know that your epoxy resin is fully dried,it will be hard and clear, uncured resin will remain sticky.

After your epoxy resin has dried you can now add another coat or remove any excess resin that doesn’t belong on your project.

You know what’s the best part about resin? You can go in two directions with this…. You can either do it for fun, create cool projects and share with your family and friends or you can turn into a part time business.

If you’re thinking about turning it into a partime business here are some of the recommended project ideas.
